Job Descriptions
All jobs in the production areas require standing on the line (conveyor belt) or at the cutting tables.
There is no ability to sit while working on the line.
All jobs require repetitive motion and some lifting (picking up or moving fillets).
Deheader
Use a large knife to dehead the fish (salmon/sockeye; larger fish such as swordfish or tuna are already deheaded)
Trimmer
Use knife or wizard to trim fish to customer specifications
Pin Bone Remover
Run hand over fillet, and use a tweezer to pull pin bones from fillet
Packer
"Make styro" - put blue plastic bag into styrofoam container and wrap plastic back to outside of container so that fish can be put inside the bag
Place fillet/fish in styrofoam container
Put ice over fish
Put lid on styro
Scale Operator
Move styro containing fish onto to scale
Press appropriate buttons on scale to print a label
Put label on styro
Move styro to conveyor so that packers can put ice on fish / lid on styro
Machine Operator
Operate different machines
- Portioning machine - cuts fish into portions (8 oz; 10 oz)
- Skinless machine - removes skin from salmon / sockeye fillets
- Fillet machine - cuts the salmon/sockeye into two after being deheaded
- Traypack machine - after product is put into the plastic container, the machine seals it
- Can also be used for individual packaging (tuna & swordfish steaks)
All jobs in shipping require employees to stand, walk, stoop, bend and squat.
Receiver
Employees certified to use forklifts and pallet jacks offload product from trucks
Move incoming product from container and put in large bin (two people if the product is large like swordfish or tuna) using hooks if needed
Re-ice product
Place lid on vat
(Vat is moved by employees who are certified forklift or pallet jack drivers to Whole Fish Cooler)
Order Picker
Picks boxes of product per customer order and puts on pallet
Labeler
Puts labels on boxes to show the type of product, weight, etc.
Shipper
After order has been picked, wrap boxes of product with plastic wrap to prevent boxes from falling during shipping
Employees certified to use forklifts and pallet jacks load product onto truck
Note: Shipping/Receiving shifts start all throughout the day. There is no set time when all the AM Shipping/Receiving employees start and end their shift (for example).
Freezer Order Picker positions require forklift experience.
Freezer Order Picker
Must
- Be able to read, write and speak English fluently
- Have prior forklift experience
- Have computer experience
- Be organized
- Be able to work in extremely cold temperatures (freezing)
Prior experience in a warehouse, order picking or shipping/receiving is a preferred
Use specialized forklift to pick orders from the freezer to bring to shipping; or pick frozen product and bring to Saw Dept for processing
Process paperwork and update computer system
